Arthur Wayne Brown
79, of Yale, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, at MediLodge of Yale.
He was born in Yale on Tuesday, August 12, 1930, the son of the late Jack and Ada (Hildebrandt) Brown.
His marriage to Bonnie M. Irving was January 26, 1961, at the First Presbyterian Church in Yale.
Art was proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force from (1951 to 1955) during the Korean War.
Art was a 1948 Yale High School graduate and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Yale, where he served as an Elder.
He was employed by Chevrolet truck division in Flint for 16 years before becoming publisher of the Yale Expositor. He was a longtime member of the Yale Lions Club and Yale American Legion Post #320. Art was a great baseball player and was given a tryout for the Detroit Tigers. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed helping other golfers, and was assistant varsity golf coach from 2001 to 2007. Art was an avid supporter of the Yale Bulldogs and attended as many of the Bulldogs sports events as he could, especially when they were held at his favorite park in Yale.
Art and his wife were inducted into Yale High School’s first Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009; they served as the parade marshals for the 2001 Yale Bologna Festival, and were the Yale High School 1993 Friend of Youth award.
Surviving in addition to his wife Bonnie of 49 years are a son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary of Yale and daughter and son-in-law, Barbara E. and Tim Stasik of Yale; step-grandchildren, Melissa (Bill) Hughes, R.J. (Jenny) LaMay and Christine LaMay, five step-great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Dempsey of Dryden; three brothers, Clifford of Riverside, CA, Richard (Donna) of The Villages, FL, and Jerry Brown of Lansing; a sister-in-law, Rose Marie Brown of Port Huron; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Jack Brown, and in-laws, William and Evelyn Irving.
His family honors the memory of Arthur and invites you to visit and share memories Friday 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday with 12:30 p.m. visiting at the First Presbyterian Church, Yale. Pastor Dave Schriber will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Arthur Brown Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund, the First Presbyterian Church, or the Yale Lions Goodfellows.
