Obituary for Betty Jean Green

Betty Jean Green
She was born Betty Jean Rix in Columbus, MI on November 25, 1930, to Elroy and Edna (Schubert) Rix, the third oldest of nine children. As the oldest girl of the family, she was given the task of primary care provider for her younger siblings before she was even a teen when her mother suddenly became a single mom. It’s a good thing that Betty loved children (or would grow to love them).
With her husband David Green, who predeceased her in 1999, she had four of her own: David Green (Lucy), John Green (Bonnie), Mary Huard (Tom), and Michael Green (Peggy). From them, she received nine Grandchildren (Elizabeth Ball, Lia Mack, T.J. Huard, Clint Green, Wayne Green, Andrea Burton, Jonathan Green, Chad Green, and Matthew Green, who predeceased her) and 21 Great-Grandchildren. She loved them all with her entire soul, and they all know she did. Her greatest joy in life was her family; she looked ahead with great anticipation each year to the massive Rix/Green/Schubert family reunion held in Richmond at the Beebe Street Park. It will not be the same without her. The world has lost one of its kindest lights.
She made things fun and loved to socialize. She loved to play Euchre, mostly because it’s a game you play with people, and loved to read People magazine because, of course, it’s about people. She ate healthy, but not too healthy, always having chocolate ice cream, frozen Snickers, and cold Coke available to guests in her home, which she kept immaculate. She lived with her husband, David, and family in Mt. Clemens, then, when the kids had grown, they moved to Memphis for many years, and, when David passed, she moved to Richmond.
The Young and the Restless will be sad to learn they have lost one of their biggest fans. She took a fall last Sunday, and being examined, it was discovered she had pneumonia, against which her body was not strong enough to keep itself alive. Her family was blessed that she had the strength to speak to just about all of them in her last day and tell them that she loved them.
Betty was a devoted Christian. She was pious, reading her Bible and praying every day, but was not concerned about which person was more pious than the next. It is written, “Love covers a multitude of sins.” She will be buried out of her home congregation, St. John Lutheran Church (L.C.M.S), Ray, MI, on Monday, August 12 at 10:30 A.M. Viewing will be available on that day in the Church from 10:00 A.M. until the service time. Viewing is also available on Sunday, August 11 from 2-8 P.M. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond, MI. The Rev. Joshua Ball, the Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, and Betty’s Grandson by marriage, will preside over the funeral. The Church’s address is 62657 North Avenue, Ray, MI 48096.
Memorials are suggested to Leader Dogs for the Blind.
