Obituary for Joseph A. Kozub, Jr.

Joseph Anthony Kozub, Jr.

76, of Chesterfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.
He was born May 17, 1942 in Detroit, the son of a Polish immigrant. He moved to New Haven as a child where he spent much of his time outdoors on his family's large farm. He graduated from New Haven High School in 1961, where he met his future wife. Joseph entered the United States Navy upon graduation and proudly served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Lofberg in Vietnam.
Joseph married Susan in 1967 and moved to Richmond where they spent 29 years together raising their family. He was employed by DTE where he worked as a lineman for most of his career and retired after 34 years of service. Joseph loved the outdoors and spent much of his time gardening, hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and coaching youth baseball. He was a parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Parish, a member of the Richmond Sportsmen Club and the VFW James Coleman Post 6802, where he served as commander from 1991 to 1993. Joseph enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Harbor Beach, and in his later years at his residence in Punta Gorda, FL where he and his wife spent the winter months and often entertained their children and grandchildren who loved to visit. Though his health and mobility declined, his strength, determination, and will to live for his family, his proudest accomplishment, prevailed for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan (nee Marocco), of 51 years, three children; Steven (Kristina) of Fennville, Daniel of Richmond, and Karen (Shawn) Walsh of Columbus, four adoring grandchildren; Katie and Emily Kozub, and Alaina and Braden Walsh, siblings; Sharon (Larry) Belt and Marie Pelot.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary (nee Czymr) at a young age, his father Joseph, step-mother Virginia (nee Pelot), sisters Dorothy Marlatt and MaryAnn Spellacy, and a brother Thomas.
The family honors the memory of Joseph and invites you to visit and share memories Saturday, April 6, 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 7, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with rosary devotion/scripture services at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond. Rite of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, at St. Mary Queen of Creation Catholic Church, New Baltimore, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Fr. Charles White, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Baltimore.
